Why you need an engagement session

It is pretty common that I sit down with a couple or get an inquiry and I hear something like, “ We are so awkard in front of the camera,” or “We don’t really know how to take photos.”

And guess what?! You are not alone in feeling this way because no one does. Sure, some people enjoy being in front of the camera more than others, but no one is born knowing how to pose themselves and often this is the very first time you may be having your photos taken professionally. Of course, there may be some circumstances that do not allow for it but if at all possible, those very reasons are exactly why you should have an engagement session with your wedding photographer. This is the perfect opportunity to make sure you are ready and comfortable on your wedding day.

One of the most important reasons to have an engagement session is that you will get all of the anxiousness out of the way before your wedding day. When I walk into the room I want all of my couples to feel excited and calm, not nervous that the photos are happening or that they are not sure what to do or what to expect from me. The engagement session allows us to interact with each other before the big day, you will learn poses, I will know how you interact with one another, and you will be more confident knowing that you can trust me and the outcome of your photos. I love on wedding days when couples already know to empty their pockets, where to put their hands, and the angles that they prefer because I can see their confidence has increased so much because of the engagement session experience.

It is also a great opportunity for you to break away from the wedding stress, and have fun with each other. You can use this time for your makeup trial and make a date night out of it. A lot of times engagement photos can be some of your favorite photos because they are fun evenings that are low stress and with no timeline to follow. So think of your engagement photos as a night out to hang out with me, learn some tricks, practice for the big day, and celebrate your engagement! ????
